FoneStarz manages digital content services through its merchandising and delivery platform for 11 mobile operators in eight countries around the world. Having just completed its initial beta testing, Evolver.fm is targeting music listeners who use smartphones, computers, or television set-top boxes. Evolver.fm is published by The Echo Nest, whose investors include Matrix Partners, Commonwealth Capital Ventures, Argos Management and three co-founders of MIT Media Lab. In addition, the company has won four National Science Foundation SBIR grants. http://www.echonest.com _____________________________________________ o Cambridge-based Semprus Raises $18 Million in Second Round Cambridge, Mass. -- Semprus BioSciences, a Cambridge-based developer of technology for preventing infection and blood clots related to medical devices, has raised $18 million in its second round of venture capital, which was led by SR One, the corporate venture capital arm of GlaxoSmithKline. Semprus was spun out of the labs of biomedical researcher and MIT Professor Robert Langer in 2007, following its first place finish in MIT's $100K Entrepreneurship Competition. 5AM Ventures and Pangaea Ventures have also invested in the company. http://www.semprusbio.com/ _____________________________________________ o Facebook Founder Zuckerberg Named Time's Person of the Year Cambridge, Mass. - Mark Zuckerberg, who founded the online social network Facebook while an undergraduate at Harvard, has been named Time magazine's 2010 Person of the Year. Editors of the publication said they chose the 26-year-old "for connecting more than half a billion people and mapping the social relations among them; for creating a new system of exchanging information; and for changing how we all live our lives." Zuckerberg’s founding of Facebook was chronicled in the recent hit movie, "The Social Network," and is now one of the world's youngest billionaires. Runners-up for the award included the Tea Party, Afgahanistan president Hamid Karzai, Wikileaks founder Julian Assange and the Chilean Miners.
